Joining the Greater Potomac Officials Association

When you join the Greater Potomac Officials Association (GPOA), you’re not just joining another association you’re joining a team. GPOA was founded in 1995 by five military personnel; its mission is to “Support America’s Troops through Sports Officiating”. Since then, GPOA prides itself on providing quality officials for sporting events in the National Capital Region for the Unites States military and civilians. We encourage you to join and be a part of the team.

According to the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO), sports officials are “becoming an endangered species”. This spells trouble for the athletic community if the number of qualified officials continues to decline. Without qualified officials, no matter how committed coaches are, no matter how devoted parents are the game will have problems. Here’s a great opportunity to learn the rules, meet new friends, and extra money in your pocket. (For instructional purposes only see example): As an amateur sports official, you have the potential of earning more than $250/wk in less than 20 hours a week (this depends on the sport). That’s 2 hours a day for 5 days @ $25.00 per game. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a college student, high school graduate or over the age of 55 you can officiate.

GPOA is always looking for officials to officiate the following sports: baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball and volleyball. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never called before, or if you’re here for a short time, our elite training staff is here to help you. Military and civilians can apply
